Meet Rev. Dr. Diane Moffett
Preacher, Leader, Consultant & Coach



The Rev. Dr. Diane L. Givens Moffett is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and previously served as the president and executive director of the Presbyterian Mission Agency overseeing over 300 employees including 75 mission co-workers for six years.
Before her role at the mission agency, Dr. Moffett spent 33 years in pastoral ministry, including positions as senior pastor at St. James Presbyterian Church in Greensboro, North Carolina, associate pastor at Elmwood United Presbyterian Church in New Jersey, and solo pastor at Elmwood Presbyterian Church in Oakland, California, her birthplace.
Known for her visionary leadership and administrative skills, Dr. Moffett has fostered spiritual and numerical growth in every role, attracting hundreds of new disciples and exemplifying the love and justice of Jesus Christ. Though she has not held public office, her impactful work in led community members and fellow clergy to encourage her candidacy for mayor, resulting in a successful fundraising campaign and significant voter support against the incumbent.
Dr. Moffett is a respected preacher and leader of retreats and workshops, providing invaluable insights on church leadership and community engagement. She consults with business and community leaders, as well as pastors and church members on strategies for contemporary ministry. Under her leadership the Matthew 25 vision that unites thousands of Presbyterians in mission was launched.
Currently, she serves on the board of the Louisville Urban League and as an advisory board member for the Katie Cannon Center for Womanist Leadership at Union Seminary in Richmond, Virginia.
Dr. Moffett holds a bachelor of arts degree in sociology and social welfare from the University of California at Berkeley, and both a master of divinity and doctorate of ministry from San Francisco Theological Seminary. She is author of the book, Beyond Greens & Cornbread-Reflections on African American Christian Identity and her sermons are published in Outstanding Black Sermons, Volume 4, Those Preachin Women, Volume 4, and The African American Pulpit.
Dr. Moffett is married to Mondre Moffett, a trumpeter and music professor at Simmons College of Kentucky, and the former host of Saint Stephen Baptist Church’s television broadcast, "Black Music Footprints." They have three married daughters and six grandchildren.
